Transitional relief extended for small group employers

Authored by Bukaty Companies on July 14, 2017

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently issued a one-year extension of its transmittal policy, allowing small group employers to keep their non-grandfathered plans that are not compliant with the ACA.

This most recent extension is the third extension since the law’s enactment in 2013, and the first under the Trump administration.

Under this extension, eligible small employer groups (1-50) can renew their transitional plan coverage through October 1, 2018. All non-compliant plans must be compliant by January 1, 2019, and any policies renewing during the 2018 calendar year must have a shortened plan year in order to end prior to January.
