Blue KC will update its prescription drug plan designs for non-ACA Small Group (1-50) and Mid-Market (51-99) plans effective October 1, 2016, upon the group’s renewal.
Blue KC will update its prescription drug plan designs for non-ACA Small Group (1-50) and Mid-Market (51-99) plans effective October 1, 2016, upon the group’s renewal. These plan changes will also be implemented for all new business in the Mid-Market (51-99) segment beginning October 1.
These changes are in response to increasing prescription drug costs, changes in drug classifications, and new higher-cost specialty drugs entering the market. Blue KC’s new 4-tier plan design for non-preferred specialty drugs is defined below.
New 4-tier plan design
■ Tier 1: Generic or Generic Specialty,
■ Tier 2: Preferred Brand or Non-Preferred Generic,
■ Tier 3: Non-Preferred Brand or Preferred Brand Specialty, and,
■ Tier 4: Non-Preferred Brand Specialty.
