In a move to curb the impact of high-cost drug utilization on members and plan sponsors, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is launching a new drug discount program.
Fully insured large groups (100-plus) will have program access at renewal starting September 1, 2025. (The program is not available to health savings account (HSA) plans, limited or no prescription drug plans, or grandfathered plans.) Fully insured and level-funded small groups (under 100) will have program access effective January 1, 2026. (The program is not available to small group HSA and AffordaBlue plans.)
Those eligible for the drug discounts will be identified based on current high-cost prescription usage. Currently, approximately 150 specialty medications are eligible for manufacturer copay dollars to reduce member and plan costs. Please note that the drug list is subject to change at any time. Eligible members will be contacted by phone and mail with details about program participation. Members who don’t enroll in the discount program will be subject to cost-sharing outlined in the plan’s benefit schedule.
