Cigna ends relationship with Prime Healthcare System

Authored by Bukaty Companies on May 7, 2024

Starting April 29, 2024, members enrolled in the Cigna Open Access Plus network no longer have access to providers and hospitals in the Kansas City area’s Prime Healthcare System. Cigna said the decision stems from the inability to negotiate lower costs with the health system, resulting in inflated rates affecting plan sponsors and their members.

The news impacts member access to four area hospitals:

    • Joseph Medical Center
    • Mary’s Medical Center
    • St John’s Hospital
    • Providence Medical Center

Cigna is also in extended negotiations through May 7 with HCA, one of the area’s largest health networks. Bukaty Companies will provide a client update once more is learned.
