Form I-9 updates

Written by Bukaty Companies | April 13, 2022

All employers are required to complete Form 1-9 to verify an individual’s employment eligibility, which can be a confusing document to navigate. The most recent round of proposed changes to Form I-9 come from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and aim to simplify its structure and make it more user-friendly.

Suggested tweaks include merging Sections One and Two, removing Section Three to make it a standalone document that only needs to be utilized when necessary, and making the form more compatible with all electronic devices. Employers should continue to use the current I-9 Form until it expires on October 31, 2022. DHS is giving the public the opportunity to voice comments or concerns regarding the proposed changes here by May 31.
