    Subsidy debate heats up

Authored by Bukaty Companies on July 24, 2014

It’s shaping up to be a battle between the Hatfields and the McCoys.

On Tuesday one federal court ruled that subsidies issued through a federal Health Insurance Marketplace are illegal.

In a separate case, another court decided subsidies were legal whether issued through a federal or state-run Health Insurance Marketplace.

The debate will likely wind it's way to the ultimate ruling power, the U.S. Supreme Court.  For now, the Obama administration is stressing that health care subsidies will still be granted.

Even Affordable Care Act opponents acknowledge it would be difficult to hit the rewind button on subsidies at this point. But, the final decision will affect millions of individuals in 36 states, including Kansas and Missouri.

So, it's kind of a big deal.

Would you still buy health insurance without a subsidy? If not, make sure you understand the IRS penalties for not having coverage.

Open enrollment begins November 15, 2014. Bukaty Marketplace enrollers can help you review plan costs, with our without subsidy, and calculate the IRS penalty for not having coverage. It's good to know your options.

    The battle could get messy.

    To your health!
