The Department of Labor (DOL) is proposing adjustments to simplify forms employers use to administer the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The proposed changes are summarized below.
- Forms will utilize more checkbox statements for physician use as opposed to requiring written statements about an individual’s health status.
- Clarifications will be added to minimize the need for additional follow-up information.
- Medical certification forms will be reorganized to more quickly determine if an individual’s condition is FMLA-eligible.
The comment period for the proposed changes ended October 4.
