Aetna’s new online cost estimator tool allows members to compare the cost of medical services prior to setting an appointment. The tool provides average network and out-of-network costs for tests, office visits, selective surgeries, and procedures.
The estimator will identify providers in a member’s area and allows a side-by-side cost comparison. Estimates are personalized and take into account a member’s deductible and coinsurance levels.
Legislation in recent years mandated that health plans provide greater price transparency. The availability of online price comparison tools is expected to give consumers the information needed to make informed decisions about the cost of their health care.
