Effective July 1, 2024, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) will update prescription drug lists (PDLs) for small (ACA and non-ACA) and large employer groups. Blue KC’s Medical Pharmacy Management Committee regularly reviews and updates PDLs for “drug safety, effectiveness, clinical outcomes, and cost”. The committee is comprised of practicing physicians and pharmacists throughout Kansas City and meets quarterly to evaluate new drug therapies and review drug utilization.
Blue KC will notify large group employers of the routine updates via email next week and notify small employers via a letter in the mail this week. The following will be impacted:
- Essential Health Benefits PDL for ACA small employer groups
- Premium PDL for non-ACA small employer groups, including level-funded ASO, with BlueSelect Plus (PPO/EPO), Preferred-Care Blue (PPO/EPO), Preferred-Care (PPO), or Blue-Care (HMO) plans
- Select PDL and Premium PDL for large employer groups with BlueSelect Plus (PPO/EPO), Preferred-Care Blue (PPO/EPO), Preferred-Care (PPO), or Blue-Care (HMO) plans
Impacted members can expect to receive a letter regarding the changes by June 1.
