Effective July 1, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) will utilize an updated prescription drug list. The updates affect Blue-Care (HMO), BlueSelect Plus (PPO), Preferred-Care (PPO) and Preferred-Care Blue (PPO) plan members. However, there may be group-specific exclusions.
With these updates, specified medications will move from Tier 2 to Tier 3 pricing. Additionally, some medications will require new step therapies; members already taking the listed drugs will be grandfathered. Blue KC will send letters to impacted employer groups and individuals, as well as notify individuals by phone or email. Local Blue KC health care providers will also be sent a letter in case members need to discuss medication alternatives.
