Earlier this summer, the Department of Labor issued an updated Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) notice. Employers that sponsor a group health plan in a state that offers premium assistance through Medicaid or CHIP must provide an annual notice to all employees informing them of the availability of premium assistance for those who qualify.
The notice also explains the 60-day special enrollment right available to employees and their dependents who either lose eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP coverage or become eligible for premium assistance through one of these programs.
Employers are required to distribute the CHIPRA notice each year. Many employers include it as part of their annual open enrollment materials.
