EEOC announces 12% uptick in victim monetary relief

In March, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released an agency performance report summarizing its efforts to combat and prevent employment discrimination under the Trump Administration.

In her opening message, EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas stated the agency secured almost $660 million in monetary relief in fiscal year 2025 for employees who reported employment discrimination claims. The amount was the third-highest total in recent history. Financial settlements were the result of mediation, conciliation and settlements led by the EEOC.

For employers, the recovery results underscore the importance of maintaining a discrimination-free culture. Efforts that lower EEOC risk include

  • appropriate, well-drafted policies,
  • well-understand complaint procedures,
  • trained managers,
  • consistent documentation practices,
  • pay equity reviews, and
  • promotion analyses.

The EEOC’s record results are a win for workers’ rights. They also serve as stark reminder that the best employer defense is good offense built on sound policies and practices.
